Scripture Reading Of The Day:
Sunday, August 20, 2023 by Kristi Ross

Are you ready to delve into the Lord’s Prayer with us?

First, the scriptures we are going to focus on are Matthew 6 starting with verse 9. But we are going to start a few verses before the Lord’s Prayer because I feel the opening verses are important in relation to All prayers.

Please know there are several versions of the Lord’s Prayer depending on what version of the Bible you are reading. For this study we are going to reference the Berean version because I personally think it stays true to the original scripture while is easier to understand than the King James Version. You will notice I have added a few (comments) with a quick additional clarification or thought, but these are not in the scripture, they are just me. We will delve into the Greek and Hebrew meaning of certain words, but for today we’ll keep it a bit lighter so you can get a feel for where we are going. I will also include a link to the Bible app where you can check and make sure I’m quoting the Bible correctly. And anytime someone quotes the Bible you want to do that! It verifies they are truly quoting God’s Word! It says in God’s word we are to Not follow or listen to anyone who changes God’s word!!

Ok, let’s begin:

Matthew 6:5-10

Jesus is speaking:

“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their full reward. But when you pray, go into your inner room, (in other words your prayer closet or a quiet place, preferably alone) shut your door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen because He is in Heaven). And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not babble on like pagans, for they think that by their many words they will be heard. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.” (Did you really hear that??? He knows what you needs before you even ask!)

So then, this is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed (or Holy) be Your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” (This is a very important point! We are asking that God’s will be done in our lives. Essentially that His will becomes our will! Isn’t that awesome! That instead of our little wants in life, like a cool car, or the latest cell phone, or whatever your “thing” is. Instead, we are asking for what God wants for us! And He wants the absolute best for us in all things! If we will just trust Him, He will bring that to us, whatever that is! Even if it’s something that feels bad at the time!! I am a walking testimony to that! The hardest things in my life turned out to be the greatest gifts and blessings because I trusted God in the midst of them!)
Matthew 6:5-10 BSB

Now, I ask you to pray about this and see if the Lord has something else He wants to share with you! And if you enjoyed this, please “like” this post and comment below what you liked, or didn’t like about this post!

We will continue tomorrow! God Bless!

I so needed to hear that God will give me what I need and not just what I want. That's something I know but it was perfect timing for me to hear it again!!!
